Don’t Forget These Im forgetful when it comes to packing. Thanksgiving break, I forgot to pack extra pants. When I went home for my birthday, I remembered my laptop case and charger but forgot my laptop. When I came back, I forgot my suit. And my toothbrush. Ugh. Well today I spend the second night in my new room at my fraternity giving you a list of things you need to make sure to bring to MIT or to buy as soon as you get here. I conducted a carefully select survey on a stratified sampling of the population of MIT students. Jk I just asked a few friends what they thought was important. So when youre cutting down on the things youre bringing, make sure to still bring these: Decorations/Memorabilia Bring something from home that reminds you of home. Your dorm is your new home for the next eight months. So make it like your home. Declare it your second home, a treehouse, a secret base, an HQ. Personalize it and make it unique to you. Also, make it stand out. Get a neon sign and hang it up. A lava lamp. A bonsai  tree. Giant Googly Eyes for your fridge. Just have something that lets people know when they walk in Yep, this is definitely Ericks room. It could even just be your unleashed artistic creativity on an unsuspecting wall. Me? I have a collage of family pictures, a Phi Kappa Sigma flag, and a sketch of Tony Stark during his college days a comic book artist drew for me at Comic Con. What are you gonna have in your room that makes it unique to you? Passport/Visa You need your passport to fill out your I-9 Form, which is what you need to be able to work for MIT. The I-9 Form requires you to present an original document that establishes your identity and employment eligibility. Most students use their passport, a birth certificate/copy, or their social security card. The back of the I-9 form lists all of the acceptable documents. So bring it, keep it somewhere hidden, and send it home after you get the I-9 if you so choose. More details  here. Surge Protector You need a surge protector. In fact, you probably need two, so buy three. Surge protectors are great because they add extra outlets and can extend outlets to any location in your room. For some reason the outlet overlords always put outlets in the most inconvenient locations, so surge protectors go a long way in helping you set up your room exactly how you want it to be. I have one next to my bed where I can charge my electronics and another one behind my desk for my laptop, mini fridge, and TV connect to. They also protects your devices from being overloaded in the case of a power spike, so ideally you want to plug everything you have through a surge protector. You should avoid having something plugged into each of the outlets, as they can draw too much power and overload the circuits. Also avoid plugging a surge protector into another surge protector (daisy chaining) for the same reasons of potential overload. Batteries In a world of chargeable devices, where do batteries still fit in? Surprisingly, in a lot. Most flashlights, Xbox controllers, Arduino add-ons. Even if you dont have anything that runs on batteries right now, you never know when youll get something. At MIT, people are working on projects all the time, theres a lot of uses on batteries. Its always best to have a pack of AA and AAA batteries handy. As they say, All tech men carry batteries. (Thanks Keri G. 10 for telling us that!) Spending Money You already took care of your school supplies and went back to school clothes shopping. You bought all the stuff you think youll need for your dorm and you may even have a meal plan, which is paid in advance. But dont forget to bring spending money. It could be in your bank account or in cash. Ideally you want to always have a comfortable amount of money that you can spend at any given time. You dont have to actually spend it, but just having it gives a peace of mind that you could if you wanted to. Now, whether or not you have the discipline NOT to is a different story.

The written report was to include recommendations and was to be submitted to Ms Rachel Rae on 17 December 2014. Kilmaurs is a village in East Ayrshire, around 2 miles north of Kilmarnock town. The village has a population of approximately 2601 residents. It has substantial history with many of the historic buildings still there to see in and around the village. It offers great travel links to Glasgow whether it be by bus, train or car. Throughout this report I hope to learn more about my local village and enjoy the opportunity to gather information through speaking with the locals. Rosemary rolled her good eye at the earl, lifted her skirts, aimed her withered bottom at Kent, and rubbed a palsied claw over it. â€Å"Round and firm, good knight. A weaker man might have plucked out his own eyes, but being a philosopher, I knew the sight could never be unseen, so I persevered. â€Å"Hop on, Kent,† said I. â€Å"Beast-shagging is thy calling and thou surely have been called.† Kent backed into a tree and half cold-cocked himself. I have no idea what I’m to do.† â€Å"Bit thick yourself, then, are you?† said Sage. â€Å"You’re to go to Gloucester. You’re to separate Lear from his knights and see that they’re under the power of his daughters. Then you’re to write letters of seduction to the princesses and bind their passions with a magic spell. Couldn’t be any clearer if it was rhymed.† Kent was nodding and shrugging as if the bloody obviousness of it all had sluiced through the wood in an illuminating deluge, leaving me the only one dry. â€Å"Oh, do fuck off, you grey-bearded sot. Where would you get a magic spell to bind the bitches’ passion?† â€Å"Them,† said Kent, pointing rudely at the hags. â€Å"Us,† said the hags in chorus. â€Å"Oh,† said I, letting the flood wash over me. â€Å"Of course.† Rosemary stepped forward and held forth three shriveled grey orbs, each about the size of a man’s eye. Newman’s Ideas According to Newman, the â€Å"Idea of a University† is the one and only true way to persevere and become successful in life. . He urges the common public to live the college life and raise their level of education and intellect. His philosophies inspire me to pursue my passion for computers and start a career in computer programming. He, too, has inspired many to become scholars and raise the level of society as a whole. His concepts should be considered highly by all for a better quality of life, and a better tomorrow. It is a known fact; the majority of people who do not attend college, do not experience success in their future. Therefore, my goal in life is to follow Newman’s Idea of a University and aim for a higher education. Another one of my goals is to achieve social and economic stability so that I can live a comfortable life. I want to be able to adapt myself to any given situation, just like any other educated person would be able to according to Newman’s ideas. Without a college education, the common public is not prepared for life. According to Newman’s idea, the purpose of a university is to â€Å"cultivate the mind.† He states that, just because any given person is specialized in one major, doesn’t mean that he or she dose not know about other subjects. A university is a community which learns from each other. Therefore, the members of the university pick up information from other individuals in the same community. This allows everyone to learn about a variety of subjects; as a result, all members become more educated in a wide range of topics. Receiving an education at a university is one of the most positive changes that can take place in an individual’s life. This can totally redirect the direction in which someone is headed and change their future. People, who would normally have minimum wage jobs without an education, can become leaders of the community if they chose to take the right ...
